Imagine walking your hotel room and finding a little something extra waiting for you in the room on top of the regular room amenities like quality towels and toiletries. Something that makes you go ‘Wow!’.
We caught up with Vanessa, W Insider at W Hotel of San Francisco, to explore the story behind the unique room amenity with gold flash tattoos that match the hotel’s design-led style and make their guests feel special and cared for.
W Hotel has a very unique style. Could you tell us more about it?
Two words that I like to describe W Hotel with are “bold” and “witty”. We’re a luxury hotel but our brand has always been kind of outside-of-the-box as far as other hotels look and feel. Our focus is on fashion, design and art. We feature a lot of musical performances in our lobby like live DJs, concerts.
W Hotel was looking for new ways to make an impression on their guests which brought them to Goldy.LA.
What sparked the idea to create custom temporary tattoos?
We want to give our customers a little something extra when they book a room. Whenever VIP guests are going out in the city to explore Downtown and celebrate their bachelorette party or birthday, we wanted to make them feel special and welcomed. We created a unique room amenity that included a bottle of champagne, a detox kit and a temporary tattoo to help make their special night an unforgettable one.

How metallic tattoos make your customers feel special?
Gold tattoos are reminiscent of the gold theme of our rooms. Our showers have gold tiles to represent gold flakes, the wallpaper in the halls has gold accents, so we really wanted to make our guests feel special by adding gold into everything that we offered and metallic gold tattoos were a perfect match!
Why did you choose tattoos compared to any other promotional product?
We printed custom postcards and custom stickers in the past but this time we wanted to surprise our guests with something unique and fun, that no other hotel has to offer. We chose tattoos because they don’t require a stamp like a postcard does and it’s a fun product for all ages. The guests can wear tattoos just for the day or take them home as a souvenir.
We also keep a stack of the tattoos at our concierge desk and hand out the tattoos to our guests whenever we recommend the local places to go out to them. It’s our way of saying that we’re here to take care of them and make their experience remarkable.
